Parc Chlorophylle - Forest Discovery Park in the Ardennes
Parc Chlorophylle is located in Dochamps, in the municipality of Manhay, in the heart of the Ardennes forest. It is not a traditional playground, nor a wildlife park, but a walking trail of approximately two kilometres where forest, play and explanation are interwoven. You walk among the trees, and along the way a story about the forest gradually unfolds. The path winds through around nine hectares of woodland. Along the route, wooden constructions, lookout points and thematic installations explain how a forest grows, which animals live there and how the ecosystem is connected. There are reconstructed animal burrows, explanations about tree species and installations that make the forest’s life cycle visible. The information is presented accessibly, often at children’s height, allowing them to read and point out what they see themselves.
Small discovery journey
Halfway along, the walk regularly turns into a small discovery journey. Children climb slightly uphill, walk along a raised wooden walkway between the trees, or linger at a construction where something moves or is hidden. The educational element is not limited to the information panels, but also lies in what you observe: how dense the forest is, how quiet it can be, how different trees appear. The combination of reading, observing and moving ensures that it is not a straightforward walk, but a route with natural pauses. At the end of the trail, larger play areas await. Here, walking gives way to climbing, sliding and running. Many families spend a considerable amount of time here after completing the route. The pace is noticeably higher than on the path itself; it feels like a closing moment where energy can be fully released.
At the entrance, there is a brasserie with a terrace overlooking a valley of wooded hills. On clear days, the view is wide and open, making the terrace a place where parents often linger a little longer. Simple meals, drinks and snacks are served. Next to the brasserie, there is a small shop selling regional products and souvenirs.
As almost everything takes place outdoors, the park is weather-dependent. Under the trees there is shade on warm days, but after rainfall the paths may feel damp. Parc Chlorophylle is open seasonally and closes during the winter months.

For families with children roughly between four and ten years old, Parc Chlorophylle often works well as a half-day activity. The walking section is manageable in length, while along the way there are enough moments for children to pause, observe or climb. The larger playground at the end ensures that the day does not consist solely of walking. On dry days, the rhythm alternates between calm walking under the trees, short explanatory moments and periods of free movement. The view from the terrace and the combination of forest and play areas create a balance between discovery and relaxation.
